Why should you be a part of “Astro Book Drive”
There are many enthusiastic students in developing countries. Many run local astronomical societies to popularize the subject giving the student and public an opportunity to explore and see the Universe.
But unfortunately they face many difficulties conducting programs without proper resources and guidance. For them even an old issue of an astronomy magazine would be gold as it is still “knowledge”.
There are many books and reading materials lying in our offices/libraries/home with no one to use or you even some are looking for a proper place to gift the excess books they have. These “excess” books worth a lot to kids in the other side of the world.
HOW TO DONATE
University Department/Institute
Many University Department/Institute libraries have excess books and magazines to be given away. And most faculty members have books and reading materials which they would like to donate.
If you are a student, staff or faculty member at a University Department/Institute, you can get together with your friends/colleagues and run a book drive and make a difference!
Organizations
Most of the major organizations have members who are interested in donating the books and reading materials they have.
If you belong to an organization, you can run a book drive with the help of society meetings/event/website/newsletter and make a difference!
Libraries
Sometimes libraries get rid of the back issues of the magazines they have or the excess books they have.
If you are a librarian or belong to a library, you can simply donate the excess books and reading materials you have or organize a project to collect books from and make a difference!
Publishers
Many publishing companies have the opportunity to donate some of the books and back issues of the magazines they publish or if publishing a periodic magazine, you can carry an article about Astro Book Drive and ask the readers to get involved.
If you belong to a publishing company please consider donating some publishing book/back issues or running an article on your magazine to make a difference!
Personal
If you are simply interested in running a book drive or be part of it, please get in touch.
Even personally you can get involved and make a difference!
WHAT TO DONATE
You can donate any reading materials in astronomy and related sciences.
Even you can donate magazine subscriptions.
All the materials should be in English language.
COST
“Astro Book Drive” is to get excess books across to astronomical societies in developing countries where they lack resources. The shipping of books could cost moderate price.
Please note that these societies we are trying to help here is in no position to cover any shipping cost themselves. The cost of shipping and related expenses would have to cover by the donor itself. But please don’t let you not run a Book Drive simply because you can’t cover the cost of shipping. Below you can see list of tips on how to cover the cost.
Donating reading materials would mean a lot to students coming from developing countries as they lack many resources to get a proper education.
