Jamaica Book Drive – Northern Lights reach the Land of Wood and Water

Astronomical Association of Jamaica (AAJ) was formed more than 60 years ago, ever since they have been working on popularization of Astronomy in Jamaica. This has increased considerably with the launch of IYA2009. Their programs include all aspects of groups, such as Scouts, School Students, Police Youth Clubs and the General Public.

AAJ is well placed to continue their work for coming years with the momentum given by IYA. To support their dedicated efforts in popularization of Astronomy, friends from Northern join in to run a book drive. The drive is lead by Gord Tulloch, with his friends at Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Winnipeg.

They are collecting;
1. Recent back issues of astronomy magazines (Astronomy / Sky & Telescope)

2. Relatively recent astronomy general text books at the high school level or even introductory university texts.

3. Planispheres, red flashlights, etc. – materials to be used in programs

These materials will be used by AAJ in their programs for school students and general public.

The book drive will collect materials till January 2010. If you are a local and interested in helping the cause by donating books, please contact Gord Tulloch at
